What is IoT Devices?

What is IOT Devices

The Internet of things is a network of communication where physical objects are connected to one another or to larger systems. Objects are connected to the internet and interact with each other.  So what makes this communication, or rather, establishes it? We can simply say sensors and internet connection. What is the iot devices meaning?

Devices that use this system. To put it bluntly, the internet of things is the connection of devices to the Internet and to each other. According to the analysis company Gartner, the number of connected devices will reach 26 billion by 2020.

As you can see from here, a huge number of tools will now be connected. According to some studies, this figure is expected to reach 100 billion. The Internet of Things is a huge network of dependent objects as well as people. In this network, there will be a connection between people, between people and objects, and between objects and objects. The Internet of Things will be the Internet of everything after a while.

Ashton’s continuing commentary on the definition of the Internet of Things, originally made by Kevin Ashton in 1999, is as follows:

‘Today, computers and the Internet almost completely require people to upload and transfer data. All the data on the internet is created by people by typing, coding, scanning barcodes, recording or uploading images. The problem is; people have limited knowledge, attention and time.

This leads us to the fact that people cannot hold enough information in real life. If there were computers that knew everything, could gather and use the information without the help of people, we could trace everything as it should and reduce any cost.’

The system is developing rapidly, but the Internet of Things has already begun to be used in many sectors, including construction, energy, health, agriculture and transportation.

Returning to the question ‘what is the iot devices’, any device that can be connected to the Internet and remotely monitored and controlled is included in the IoT device class. In this context, both our mobile phones and the televisions that can connect to the internet are actually IoT devices. In short, the Internet of Things has no end, and the connections it can establish are endless. It is impossible to imagine the effects of these connections today.

IoT Devices Examples

The Internet of Things attracts the attention of many researchers around the world. Because it is a subject that will make our future easier. The number of devices included in the Internet of Things is increasing day by day.

People also make efforts to understand the opportunities that this concept offers them and the challenges they face. The first applications of this system date back to 1980. A Coca Cola vending machine in the café of Carnegie Mellon University is shown as the first smart IoT device.

The programmers were able to see the stock of the machine via the internet, whether they should add new products or not, without having to go to the device. Today, when we think about it, it was a simple but revolutionary application compared to 1980.

However, the Internet of Things is rapidly changing daily life. It is also a candidate for creating a completely different lifestyle.

Some examples of IoT devices can be listed as follows:

1-Smart Thermostat

Smart thermostats work with your home’s heating system or air conditioner to adjust the air conditioning according to your routine schedule. The difference from normal thermostats is that you don’t need to make any adjustments after using smart thermostats for a week. It records the hours in which you lower and increases the temperature. Then it makes the necessary adjustment.

Smart thermostats are available in different brands, but the most up-to-date is Nest’s Learner Thermostat. Nest is a device integrated into the heating system in our house. When you come home without having to make adjustments, you find your home at the desired temperature setting.

2-Smart Bulbs

These are light bulbs that you can turn on and off without getting up or out of the house. There are two different options like IP-enabled bulbs that you can observe and monitor the status of any device connected to the internet remotely and LED bulbs which are transferred data with the help of VLC technology. Philips Hue, LIFX and Flux Bluetooth Bulb are the leading brands in the smart bulb industry.

3-Smart Homes

In fact, IoT systems, which consist of multiple products, form smart homes. Devices such as refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and dishwashers that are connected to each other and your own mobile device through a network are remotely visible, controlled and manageable.

4-Smart Lock

Thanks to Smart Lock you won’t have to worry about forgetting the key anymore. If your phone is in your pocket, it opens the lock when you approach it, closes it when you move away. The phone app gives you access even when you are not at home.

5-Smart Socket

You can plug any device into this product, which is plugged into a normal outlet. You can switch the power on or off at a set time interval, or you can perform the same operation at the touch of a button on your smartphone.

6-Healthpatch Health Monitor

With the device, you can have an examination and ECG without going to the hospital. Heart rate, breathing rate, skin temperature, such as values can be measured, you can check your body posture when you fall you can send the news to health care professionals.

7-Automatic Car Tracking Adapter

The Automatic app keeps track of your car’s status thanks to an adapter built into the car. In other words, it measures your mileage, counts how many hours you drive, calculates fuel cost and efficiency, reports your location, and states if there are any problems with the contact.

The Internet of Things will benefit people in many areas our demonstrations are just a few samples of iot devices examples. These examples can, of course, be reproduced.
